[Review] Face to Face by KaT-TUN
Hello my
lovelies,
KaT-TUN (or
sometimes stylised as KAT-TUN as well) is not really my cup of tea, but their
song are nice to listen to and they are somewhat different than most other
boyband in their company (Johnny’s Entertainment).
For their
latest single Face to Face (released May 15th, 2013), is an
accompaniment for Kamenashi Kazuya (Ka of KaT-TUN) new movie called Ore Ore
(Which I did a review of earlier). This is their 21st single.
Working Covers for Face to Face
This single
is produced in 3 different versions like many other Johnny’s Entertainment
talents single releases.
The track
title Face to Face is a nice up-tempo song with a hint of classical underlay of
violin, (nice song for a RPM workout) their voice is not particularly awesome
but it works well with the song. I have never been too fond with Kamenashi’s
voice especially and it bugged me a little since his voice is the most
prominent throughout the track despite of them saying that the vocal is being
distributed fairly between the five of them.
The second
song in the regular edition is Dramatic. The tempo is a little slower than Face
to Face, other than that there is really nothing special about this song.
Although, snippet of the chorus is being used as a theme song for a Baseball
Game called “Dramatic Game 1844”.
The third
song on the single really get on my nerves for some reason. The song is a
ballad called Ano Hi no Mama (あの日のまま). The first time I heard
this track, it actually skipped my mind that I was listening to a senior idol
group who have been in the industry for more than 5 years. It sounded very
cheap and KaT-TUN, although they are not known for their ballads, but seriously,
this is one of their worst songs ever.
B-side song for the limited edition A is called LIVE ON
(Live on herein). I am not the biggest fan of autotune (the machine like voice
editor thing), and somehow it works for me this time. The seems more alive for
me. Also this song reminds me of an old song, We Fit Together by an American
boyband called O-Town. This edition comes with a DVD of the title song music
video (PV) and the making clips of the video.
For limited edition B, the B-side song is not a group song
instead the song, Flash was sung by Taguchi Junnosuke (one of the T-T). To me,
Taguchi is not the best singer in KaT-TUN and he has the average voice most
harmonizers in a boyband has. This edition also comes with a DVD with Flash PV
and making. Taguchi is a pretty good dancer, better than most idols I follow,
and I enjoyed his PV very much.
For this single, I would give a mere 2.5 out of 5 (2.5/5)
for satisfaction. I do not think that it is worth the money if you are not a
fan of the group.
Love and Kisses,
GWRL
