[Review] Ore Ore Movie (俺俺)

Hello my lovelies,

Two nights ago I asked a bunch of people from my facebook on what they want me to review on next. Though for some reason, many of them personal messaged me instead of commented on the post itself. Most of them wants me to review on movies and most of them want me to review on one particular movie called Ore Ore (俺俺).

Let me just say this. Fans of Kamenashi Kazuya, do not read beyond this line.

Synopsis
“Ore ore” is in actual fact a well known scam where a person imposes as another and scam money (usually) form the other’s family members. In the case of the movie Hitoshi who is in a financial squeeze, uses a mobile that belong to another customer, Daiki in a fast food chain where he was at and persuaded Daiki’s mother to transfer \900,000 to his bank account.
However, after the encounter, Daiki’s mother came to his apartment and treated him like her own son. Which baffles Hitoshi who then followed her to her home only to find out that he looks exactly the same as her son, Daiki.
These bizarre encounters does not stop there when Hitoshi went back to his mother’s house only to be treated as an imposter. Later the third doppelganger called Nao appears. Since they all seemed to be thinking alike most of the times, these three formed a sort of a club.
Along the first half of the movie, Hitoshi was then adapting to his life being one of the triplets. It was then when more somewhat “defective” Hitoshi’s copies began to show up every where and began to cause trouble.

This drama was based on a prize-winning novel with the same title by Tomoyuki Hoshino. Because of my lack of Japanese skill, I cannot say I have read the book, thus, I cannot compare the book to the movie. But as a self-proclaimed avid reader, I might just like the book much better than the movie.

To say the least this could possibly be the worst movie ever made in the dramatic world, and the worst acting by Kamenashi Kazuya.

From what I have heard about the book, it’s about the “ore-ore-sagi” which is an over the phone fraud aimed at an older relative to swindle money. Basically the story is about the antagonist swindles from another family unknowingly another swindler is doing the same to his family. And these continuation of identity stealing goes on and on which almost as if the writer was writing about the eroding identity in the near post-modern world.

Kamenashi’s acting was down right pitiful to say the least. I mean I have seen him on many roles before this movie and I sincerely thought this movie would at least be a nice light comedy that is actually worth watching. The first time I went to see this movie with a friend I was really burnt out, and I literally slept almost two third of the movie, so I thought maybe I was just too tired to keep my eyes even open to watch the movie. Boy was I wrong. The second time I went to watch the movie, again I was nodding off in many parts of the movie and believe me, nodding off in the middle of movies are not my thing and I know I did not miss much from the scene since, my friend who was with me actually told me what I missed during the short blacking off in the movies.

On top of that, there was one scene where Kamenashi was at a fast food restaurant counter and the extra actually out shone his performance at that time. I do not know why but Kamenashi’s performance this time was so disappointing it hurts to even talk about it. I am not a crazy fan of his, but I have seen his better moments. He does have a lot of good even great performance be it a drama or a movie.

Although I cannot blame him 100% on his acting performance, I mean the director has to take some blame as well. The only thing that disappoint me more is that: Why was Kamenashi’s performance felt like an amateur actor or even a junior acting in a drama instead a professional? But the other actors such as Uchida Yuki and Tajima Ryo looked good (okay they may not be great but they were actually the bearable part of this movie for me).

Despite not being thrilled by this movie, there is something that I do like about it. The lighting and the videography felt raw and fun to watch. It felt like watching a 120 minute short or an indie movie. The videographer really captured the essence of the movie and the lighting really made the scenery look like a world on the brink of collapse.

The other thing I like about this movie is the soundtrack. The sound provided by Kamenashi’s boy band KAT-TUN called Face to Face [a short review on this single will be available soon] is actually good for a change.

I would recommend this movie if you are an indie movie lover or a Kamenashi Kazuya ultimate fans. But personally, I do not enjoy this movie one bit apart from lighting and videography. I would rate this movie a low 1.5 out of 5 (1.5/5) just for the lighting and the nice raw touch to it.

Love and kisses,

GWRL

  1. Apart from all the other review, since this one is about ore ore, so i'm tempted to check it out since the link is on the side of your blog. I'm Kame's fans so reading this review kinda hurt me a bit when you talk about his acting skills. TT___TT Well, I've watched this movie too. So I kinda understand where that is coming from. To me the movie is bearable only because Kame is in it. You have to give him credit too since he's playing so many character at one time. It is not easy, just imagine how he had to act talking to another him, it is not easy to act when the character or actor is not there so the reaction and acting skills of how he portrayed those character, to me it is quite good. Acting so many character at the same time might have affect his acting skills a bit, but I think he did a good job. To me at least, well everyone have their own opinion so I respect yours, but also hope you will consider the challenged that he have to face portraying so many character at the same time.

Frankly speaking, the story line is a bit disappointing since I was expecting more. I travel all the way to Singapore just to watch the movie premiere. Going back after the premiere, l was like what is the message that the story trying to convey to us? I can't quite comprehend it. Seriously I understand why you would fall asleep while watching this. -___-!!

  2. Hi Farah,

    Thank you for your feedback~
Travelling to another country just to watch a movie is going a little too far isn't it? I salute you for showing Kamenashi-kun so much respect for his work that you are willing to travel and spend for his works.

    Love,
