[Review] Trust Ikane : Yasuda Shota' Butai 2011

Watching your bias to be on stage while sitting in the front row you would expect him to be perfect, wouldn’t you. Well not for me. I was expecting a failed performance, which means I went in the theater with nearly no expectation at all. Knowing that this will be a comedic performance and I am not a big fan of comedic theater and this certainly make me want to see more of comedic musical like this one.

‘Trust Ikane’ is not Yasuda Shota’s finest work (well for the 2 show that I did watched anyways), but to go in expecting nothing, this show gave me something. This s how actually brought tears to my eyes (yes both time) and even worse the second time since I had someone to actually tell me what was going on from the first show.

Although this is a comedic show, the values that it shows, the bond of friendship, the value of trust and the value of family are conveyed in a very relaxed and realistic ways. The portrayal of the characters seems to be very relaxed by all actor and actresses (I don’t know all of them except for Yasuda), they seemed to be very confortable on stage.

Yasuda is a naturally born ‘tennen’, he was funny even when he was not trying. And even funnier when he tries to be serious. And for him to slip on stage was hilarious (he fell the second time flat on his butt, but he did not fall the first time). To add sugar to the sweetness is the rap or the hip hop song that Yasuda sang. The lyric is something like below (or a rough translation of it):

シャインズ 「母なる大地」
Shines “Mother Earth”

Don don cha……don don cha……
Don don cha……don don cha……

I can’t fill up the distance, my voice can’t reach you

Love and peace, parmesan cheese

My mother died, I’ve only got tears, “I’ve got to be strong,” I begged God

Love and peace, parmesan cheese

Love and peace, parmesan cheese

Think of Yasuda singing that with his very Yasuda ways and the costume are very him, the colors, the design and even the goodies sold at the show are very Yasuda, it’s a very happy color and very bright and unique.

This is actually my first time commenting about a musical or a theater I watched live since I have nothing to refer back to, so I hope this gives a little review about the story and about the atmosphere of the show. All in all this show is very satisfying for me, I’d give a very deserving eight out of ten (8/10)
